NLP

Neuro-linguistic Programming, or NLP, as it is commonly known, is a technique that was originally devised in the 1980's by Richard Bandler and John Grindler. They noticed that some therapists were more successful than others and decided to find out just what it was that these people did that set them apart from others.

From this original modelling, NLP was born. Using a variety of techniques taken from a wide range of therapy styles, NLP can help you change your life. From phobias to confidence issues, the therapy is adapted to each individual person, so that even if two people were to suffer the same phobia, the approach to each could be completely different, yet both will be successful.

Combining NLP with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy techniques, I can help you address not just the symptoms of your behaviour, but the very beliefs that underpin that behaviour. You will find that if you can change what your inner mind believes, then any unwanted behaviours will also change.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy

Often people seek hypnotherapy to help set goals and find the motivation to achieve those goals, which is a worthy aim, but if our unconscious doesn't think the direction we're steering is a good idea then the chances are it'll put a spanner in the works. The way it usually does this is to reduce our motivation or increase our anxiety. I have a large range of tools at my disposal, so the where coaching begins and therapy ends tends to be blurred. Using relaxation techniques, I'll bypass your conscious thoughts (the thoughts that help you know where you want to go) and work with your unconscious thoughts (the ones that may seem to sabotage you on your journey). There is no hocus-pocus, you will be fully aware of everything that is said. You will feel a wonderful sense of relaxation when the session ends.

Emotional Freedom Technique

It shouldn't work – but it does! Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT is an enormously useful tool that can help with a wide range of problems including pain relief, phobias and panic attacks. It's a little like acupuncture, but without any needles!

It is a technique that works on the basis that many of the problems we face, both physical and psychological has an emotional root. This emotion can block the energy pathways within our body. By tapping on specific meridian or acupressure points, EFT helps to clear those blockages, helping you to think and feel more positively.

We get stuck sometimes, don't we? Whether it's in our relationships, in business or in life itself, most of us at some point come to a grinding halt. Why is a big question, and certainly a lot of factors can come into it, but I believe that a big one is that we don't know enough about ourselves. We're ignorant of the unconscious factors that guide our life down blind alleys, or seem to block the direction we think we want to go down.

Many of us live with a feeling that we're not living the life we could; or that the choices we've made are wrong, but we can't find a way out of the consequences of them. If that fits your situation then Project You may be for you.

Project You Coaching is a model that has no limits on the techniques it can employ to help you get what you came for. It can be used to help you achieve a goal you have in mind, but it's intended to do a lot more; it's intended to give you the means of taking control of the way you live your life. This doesn't involve anything weird or fluffy (well actually, it might do – but only a little bit!), it's based on solid research that shows how people can improve their sense of contentment and happiness, and maximise the things they have going for them in the most productive way. In short it's about you finding flow.

Using coaching, hypnosis and relaxation techniques, we work in small groups of up to 4 ladies so that you can let go of any fears or worries about the birth. When labour starts, you can be fully aware of the work your body is doing to bring your baby safely into the world, but it doesn't need to involve any other part of your body, except your uterus. Your body knows what to do, so together we will learn techniques that can prevent the rest of your body (and your mind) from getting too involved.

Mothers using this method have reported calmer, shorter labours (in some cases, where birth has been dangerously fast, mothers have been able to calm the process down without creating stress so that they can make it to the hospital in time!). It's worth noting that where this method has been used, midwifery staff have been very impressed with the results, and have become keen to undergo formal training in the technique. If you do choose Confident Childbirth, please let your midwife know, as they may not have been involved with this style of birth and may not know what to expect. (They could be wondering why you're so calm, why you're not asking for pain relief and also they may not be expecting a particularly swift delivery). Please note, you should always be under the care of a medical professional whilst pregnant, and that these techniques are in no way intended to replace conventional care. This is a complementary therapy.
